The strangest thing happened to me on yesterday at my daycare. A City of Tacoma Tax & License compliance officer showed up at my house and gave me some information about a new tax/license I am required to have to operate a small business in Tacoma. At first I was shocked because I knew we had complied with all state requirements - registered business license filed through the Secretary of State ($200+), Early Childcare License ($30 annually) through Department of Child, Youth and Families (formerly Department of Early Learning).
So when this Compliance Officer appeared at my door, I was worried, to say the least.
After talking to her for a little while, calling her after she left - I garnered a lot of information that I would like to now share with you all.
1) Although we are registered through the sate for our business license - You MUST now register with the city of Tacoma and pay the $110 fee if you gross between $12,000 - $250,000 annually - the fee goes up if you gross more than that
2) The website is kind of difficult to navigate - if you've never been on there before - I got lost a few times before I found the application
3) There is a way to register and pay online through a system (https://www.filelocal-wa.gov/Default_FileLocal.aspx)
4) This city business tax is only in 5 cities currently - Bellevue, Everett, Lake Forest Park, Seattle & Tacoma
and 5) Not filing is not an option lol
I have submitted the pdf business application to FCCACP via emailing the Director of Marketing at:
firstname.lastname@example.org and she assured me that she would post it on the resource page for all providers.
If you have information that needs to be shared to all providers please email your stories to email@example.com and it will be added here on the updates page.As many of you know, we at FCCAPC are family home providers, just like you. In the city of Tacoma, we have had Tax and License Compliance Officers coming around to small businesses to ensure we are registered with the city. At first it was shocking
